FAQs
Q:What age can my child start training?
We recommend 1st – 3rd grade as starting point considering our fundamental approach to movement for the little ones.
Q:How many times a week should my child train?
1 to 3 times a week depending on their other activities
Q:I’m worried about my child lifting weights - will my child be lifting weights?
It depends on their age and safety/form is paramount! Elementary aged kids my use some very light sandbags, balls, bands. Middle schoolers will begin incorporate some “weights” but focus on building foundational strength. High schoolers will move loads only that are required in the needs of their sport.
Q:Do you do sport specific training?
Yes, in that all sports require athletes to lunge, pivot, jump, hop, squat, reach, swing, pull, push and lift in all directions. That is exactly what we emphasize in our 3D approach to training.
Q:What if my child doesn’t play sports?
Not a problem! Many of our athletes don’t participate in organized sports but have goals for the health and wellness.
Q:What do I do if a session time is full when trying to sign up?
Sign up for the waitlist so we know there is demand. After which, you will be notified when your child is auto added to the class or we will contact you directly to let you know we opened up another session at that same time.
Q:Does my child have to sign up for a session to attend?
Yes. We ask that you be signed up/registered for every session as we put a premium on being prepared/ having the appropriate amount of coaches for maximum oversight and safety.
Q:Does my child need to undergo an evaluation?
No – unless they are just getting out of post-surgical physical therapy or are have chronic/acute pain. However, in the event there is are any special considerations we should be made aware of – we are always happy to have a conversation a day before the session time to go over those items.
Q:My child runs “weird”. Do you work on running mechanics?
Yes we absolutely work on linear, lateral and multidirectional acceleration/speed technique. However, keep in mind that usually when your child “runs weird” that mechanical cueing alone is almost never the solution. Typically, kids in this scenario lack the basic core strength and stability needed to maintain good form when running.
Q:Where are your facilities located?
- Main Facility is at the Westwood shopping center (Behind Post Office).
- Auxiliary Facility is inside WACC (Westlake Athletic & Community Center).
Q:My child is going into 6th Grade or 9th Grade – which aged session should they attend?
For summer, we recommend rising 6th graders attend Middle School sessions and rising 9th graders attend High School sessions. Otherwise, during spring and fall we find it better to stay within their grade.
Q:How are the sessions structured?
A session begins with a dynamic 3D Primer (flexibility, mobility, movement warm up). We then work on a particular acceleration/speed system (linear, lateral, multi-directional) before transitioning into even more individualized power and strength-based exercises.
Q:Does my child need one on one sessions?
Likely not but they are available in the event an athlete wants to get a little more comfortable with the environment at T4TG before entering the small groups. Additionally, some post-surgical or injury situations do indeed lend themselves to be better addressed in a one on one situation.
Q:Are there boys and girls specific sessions?
No but if numbers do allow, we will typically arrange them up with their peers.
Q:I have a group of kids that are all friends and want to train together – what do I do?
Simply organize when the kids want to train and all register with that information in mind.
Q:What if I have a group of kids that want to train together but not at an already offered time?
Let us know when and how many!
